ARISTOPHANES. Comoediae undecim , in Greek, edited by S. Grynaeus, Basle: Andreas Cratander & Johann Bebel, 1532, small 4°, FIRST COMPLETE EDITION, woodcut initials, pages ruled in red (title quite heavily soiled, lacking the final leaf as is the Emmanuel College copy, 2B4 with small tear at inner margin, 2M3 with small green stain affecting two characters), early 19th-century straight-grained crimson morocco (spine rather rubbed). [Adams A1708] Provenance : John Geo. Sheppard, Wadham College; presented to the the Rev. G. D. Boyle from the Sheppard family, with their inscription; H. Drury, Harrow. Also with a loosely-inserted 3 page letter, dated October 10 1883, from L. Ridley, Dean of Salisbury, to an unidentified correspondent, remarking on this as "a rare, correct and celebrated edition."
