ARMSTRONG, Neil – Typed letter signed ("Neil Armstrong") to Thomas Stafford, Cincinnati, 5 December 1973. [With:] Two Christmas cards from the Armstrong family to the Stafford family. "Dear Tom: I’ve been following your progress in Russia by way of the news accounts, which indicate that you’re making progress." General Stafford was in intense training for the upcoming Apollo Soyuz Test Project (ASTP) mission scheduled for July 1975, nearly 18 months away. Stafford and his Apollo crew traveled several times to Russia for training with the Soviet equipment. In the letter, Armstrong mentioned Georgi Beregovoy, the cosmonaut who flew the Soyuz 3 mission in 1968. Armstrong had visited Russia in May, 1970 to give a paper at the 13th annual conference of the International Committee on Space Research. Beregovoy served as his host during that visit. One page, 8.5 by 11 inches, on University of Cincinnati letterhead. [With:] A pair of Christmas cards from the Armstrongs to the Staffords. Postmarked from Cincinnati, OH, 1979 and 1984. Both accompanied by mailing envelopes addressed by Janet Armstrong with a Rivendell Farm address label.
