Title: Art Anatomy - a hand drawn edition of the human anatomy instructional book Author: Rimmer, Dr. William Place: Boston Publisher: Houghton, Mifflin and Company Date: 1884 Description: Hand-written title page, publisher's note, 2 pages of table of contents + 50 pages, all hand-written and drawn in red ink on waxy paper, with blank interleaves. 30x37.5 cm (11¾x14¾") half brown morocco and boards. An unusual book, in which a skilled artist has copied this instructional text by Dr. William Rimmer from the title page on to page 50 (ending with figure No. 282 out of 900) of this work by the artist Dr. William Rimmer Doesn't appear to be drawn by Rimmer himself as each page is signed with the initials at bottom right H.N.W. Unclear how this text came about. Perhaps it was a drawing exercise for one of his students, practicing drawing of human anatomy. The artist is skilled and dedicated to produced 50 pages of plates (each with several figures and text). It is not a complete copy/transcription of the text and figures as there are 81 plates with approximately 900 figures in the complete text. An unusual item, and likely the only one of its kind.
