Album of original drawings, engravings, related letters and cheques compiled by the illustrator Henry Fitzcook (or Fitz-Cook), comprising a group of his highly-finished designs in pen-and-ink for Poems in Pen & Pencil (for the title, introductory sonnet and an incomplete set of five verse designs, one dated at the end 12 August 1846), with his pencil sketch for ‘The Return of Enoch Arden’; with an incomplete set of engraved illustrations for Isaac Watts’s Divine and Sacred Songs, with manuscript material mounted on the reverse of each, such as letters, receipts and payment cheques, artists represented comprising William Holman Hunt (“...I am working closely at the little picture of the girl praying and I hope to have it sufficiently finished to be able to do the drawing from it before the end of the week..."; plus cheque made out to him), Hablot K. Browne ‘Phiz’, Marcus Stone Thomas Morten (a striking design anticipating Beardsley’s late style, with the note “T. Morten committed suicide shortly after etching this Design”), Florence Caxton, J.D.
