Spaulding (ca. 1922-1924) Graphite on wove paper 11 x 16 inches Signed by West in pencil and Spaulding in ink; lightly worn, two small stains, not affecting drawing. William H. Spaulding was an American football player and coach. At the time of this drawing Spaulding was coaching for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, and a Brother in Faculty of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, of which West was a member in 1923. Autograph letter, signed New York, Dec[ember] 16th, 1925. Inscribed by West to Leland [F. Leland] discussing his recent trip to Spain for the book Vivid Spain, the recent increase in attention to his work, as well as a print sent with this letter, possibly the San Sebastian print included in this lot Chapple, Joe Mitchell, and Levon West (illustrator) Vivid Spain Boston: Chapple Publishing Company, Limited, 1926.
