Original printed wrappers housed in a modern clamshell case. 11 x 15 inches (28 x 38 cm); title with small printed map, with ten fine lithographic plates on mounted India paper (including two folding panoramas), printed by Hague and Day, and others, each with accompanying text leaf. Wrappers a bit chipped, upper right corner bumped, but in all a rather nice copy in the original state. Allen, a Royal Naval officer, was a noted explorer, abolitionist and traveler. Some of his paintings were exhibited at the Royal Academy, from 1842 to 1847, and the present illustrations attest to the quality of his work. Rare in the original wrappers.
