ATHIAS, ISAAC. Thesoro de preceptos. Amsterdam: Semuel ben Israel Soeyro, 1649. 150 leaves. Title-page with printer's device of Menasseh (Yaari 58). 4to, 195 x 148 mm. (7¾ x 5 7/8 in.), contemporary blind-panelled calf over wooden boards, upper joint partially cracked, lacking clasps (a few remnants present); new endpapers, a few worm holes in gutter margin penetrating text block (affecting a few letters slightly), lower corner on Ii3 chipped (affecting shoulder note slightly), some light browning and pale staining. Second edition. Wolf III, 1252; Barbosa II, p. 915; Rodr. Castro, p. 587; Rib. Santos, p. 311; Inocencio III, p. 231; Gallardo 292; Kayserling, p. 15; Palau 19334; Peeters 65; Simon V, 1104; Cat. Menasseh 60; not in Steinschneider. The author had been a pupil of haham Isaac Uziel, one of the first rabbis of the Sephardi Jews of Asterdam. Afterwards he went to Hamburg and Venice. There he had his work printed for the first time in 1627.
