Atlas publisher Martin Goodman's postwar success peddling steamy men's adventure pulps prompted him to launch a spate of war and adventure comics, the sheer volume of which allowed Atlas to dominate the category in the 1950s. "This time Goodman hit the jackpot, as returned World War II veterans voraciously read his line of manly 'true' adventure stories featuring images of fetching females in distress. At the same time Goodman wanted Stan Lee to start a similar line of adventure comics, launching Man Comics #1 in December 1949. Imitations immediately followed: True Adventures, Men's Adventures, Young Men. These action-packed tales were joined in mid-1950 by the spy genre, as Spy Cases, Spy Fighters, and Kent Blake of the Secret Service appeared on newsstands." — Dr. Michael J. Vassallo, Atlas At War!
