Autograph album containing a large number of signed letters, signatures, notes and signed addressed envelopes from 19th century writers, musicians, politicians, members of the Royal family, and various titled aristocrats, including an autograph letter in the third person by Washington Irving sending his compliments to Richard Robertson and expressing his inability to give him the “desired information” about Major Lee, “being intensely ignorant of the movements or residence of that gentleman”, one page, 8vo, Chandos Street, Saturday morning, [c. 1829-30]; autograph letter in the third person by Captain John Franklin to Mr. Letts, thanking the recipient for the “honour he proposes […] by placing his portrait in the new European Magazine” but that he has “rather an objection to appearing so conspicuous in a popular work” and declines the offer, 8vo, one page, Soho, Wednesday 4th [c. 1830s]; and other autograph letters and notes including those by Victor Hugo Daniel Auber, the Duke of Wellington, Walter Scott James Mackintosh and Richard Westmacott; clipped signatures and inscriptions by Charles Dickens Mary Russell Mitford, Jenny Lind, Queen Victoria, William IV, George IV; and approximately 200 signed and addressed envelope fronts by politicians, members of the clergy and various titled aristocrats, 4to, covers detached, 19th century -- A large collection of letters, notes, signatures and signed envelopes from some of the most eminent and recognised figures from the 19th century.
