Louis XVIII (1755-1824), King of France from 1814 (but his reign is considered to have started in 1795) until his death in 1824. In 1814, he gained the French throne with the assistance of Charles Maurice de Talleyrand after Napoleon's downfall. Charles Phillippe, Charles X, King of France and of Navarre (1757-1836), also known as "the Comte d'Artois" and grandson of Louis XV, succeeded his older brother in 1824. He reigned until the French Revolution of 1830 when he abdicated rather than become a constitutional monarch. He was the last king of the Bourbon line to reign over France.
