Late 18th-century/early 19th-century diced russia gilt, g.e. (joints tender, the upper slightly split). A fine large copy of the first printing of Bacon's chief work, edited by Samuel Jebb from the 16th-century Trinity College manuscript, which was believed at the time to be the only complete manuscript copy. Subsequent discoveries revealed a seventh part, first published in 1860. Inserted between parts IV and V is a separate treatise De multiplicatione specierum .
