BACON, Roger (1214?-1294). Opus Majus ad Clementem quartum, Pontificum... Ex MS. Codice Dubliniensi, cum aliis quibusdam collato. nunc primum edidit S. Jebb. London: William Bowyer 1733. 2° (380 x 242mm.). Title printed in red and black. Two folding engraved plates, one folding letterpress table. (Some light spotting to first and last few leaves.) Late 18th-century/early 19th-century diced russia gilt, g.e. (joints tender, the upper slightly split). A fine large copy of the first printing of Bacon's chief work, edited by Samuel Jebb from the 16th-century Trinity College manuscript, which was believed at the time to be the only complete manuscript copy. Subsequent discoveries revealed a seventh part, first published in 1860. Inserted between parts IV and V is a separate treatise De multiplicatione specierum .
