Printed in blue and red. (Occasional light spotting.) Uniformly bound in blue (first work) or maroon (second work) cloth gilt, gilt edges (second work with a few spots on front cover); modern slipcase. FIRST EDITIONS of 'two of the most elegant chess books ever to appear'. One of three generations of chess problem composers, Mrs. Baird herself composed over 2,000 problems 'noted for their soundness' (Hooper and Whyld, p.27). She has added quotes from Shakespeare to each problem in the second work. (2)
