(3) ⁂ Three rare survivals relating to the bankruptcy of the bank Chambers and Sons in 1824, and the subsequent distress of Abraham Henry Chambers, the senior member of the family. The family appealed to Parliament for an amendment to the Bankruptcy Act to exclude debtors who were over 70 from imprisonment. Mary Chambers, known as 'The Banker's Daughter' became the sole provider for the family and held a benefit concert with the support of her aristocratic peers.
