Limp paper cover w. charming cartouche in ink and colour wash in which the title has been written together with "Lang Leef de Republiek" above a sea battle scene drawn in ink and colour wash. The author of this manuscript on semaphoring (signalling with flags) sailed on the Kortenaar, a marine vessel, and held the rank of lieutenant. He may have been responsible for the flags that were used? In 1796 the Kortenaar sailed under the command of J.A. v. Grootenraay and in 1799 under A. Staringh. Written in a very legible hand and divided in 8 chapters.
