Beschreibung:

.34 caliber, 35.25" octagonal barrel, no S/N. Browned finish, brass furniture, hardwood full-stock. Percussion lock secured by a single screw, with pronounced teat at rear. Lock with distinctive Bedford County-style long, curled hammer spur. Lock signed with two initials that may be an "I" and an "S" followed by the last name "King", possibly George King of Somerset, PA. Barrel signed as well with the last name "King" partially legible but the first name indecipherable. Drum-style bolster, but rifle appears to have been produced as a percussion arm rather than being a conversion. Double-set triggers with screw adjustment. Dovetailed notch rear sight and German silver blade front sight. Lovely four-piece open work brass patchbox with engraved door and release in toe plate. Raised cheek rest with German silver oval plate punch dot engraved with a stylized "chicken neck" American Eagle. Simple brass furniture otherwise, consisting of a a spurred triggerguard, buttplate with lightly engraved tang, plain toe plate, "winged" lock screw escutcheon and two faceted ramrod thimbles and an entry pipe. An elegant in its simplicity decorative German silver saddle plate extends from the front of the triggerguard to the rear of the entry pipe. A small German silver heart-shaped thumb plate is in place at the wrist. Four dots or punch marks are found on the top flat of the barrel in two places and on the lock screw escutcheon, possibly some type of mating mark. This diminutive rifle is only 50" in overall length with a short 12.5" length of pull and a narrow butt that is slightly less than 1" in width. The slim and trim design suggests the rifle may have been made for a youth or a woman. A really attractive and aesthetically pleasing smaller sized full-stock percussion rifle in the Bedford County style that likely dates from the 2nd quarter of the 19th century. Condition: Good. Rifle with no finish and an evenly oxidized brownish patina over most of the iron parts and medium golden patina on the brass. The metal around the barrel signature has been lightly cleaned, leaving that area with a gray appearance. Lock remains functional, bore fair with moderate pitting and oxidation. Stock with wear and some repairs, most notably a repaired crack at the reverse of the tang area and repaired cracks at middle pipe that suggest that the last 13" or so of the forend may be replaced. Overall a very attractive Pennsylvania full stock rifle from the percussion era.
