Béla Kádár Hungarian 1877-1956 - Figures by the coast; ink on paper, signed lower left 'Kádár Béla', 19.8 x 25.7 cm (ARR) Provenance: private collection and thence by descent Note: heavily influenced by Hungarian folklore, Kádár became a distinctive voice in Modernist art, exhibiting at the celebrated Der Strum Gallery in Berlin in the 1920s, alongside Oscar Kokoschka, Paul Klee and fellow Jewish artist Marc Chagall He would also be included as part of a pioneering show at the Brooklyn Museum, New York, in 1928, selected by Man Ray and Duchamp.
