The mission was made at the request of the Belgian archivist Louis-Prosper Gachard and focused on documents concerning the "États-Généraux" of the Southern Netherlands from Philip the Good until The diary offers an account of de Saint-Genois’ travels, meetings with colleagues, findings etc. in Cologne, Bonn, Koblenz, Mainz, Frankfurt, Heidelberg, Salzburg, Vienna, Prague and Hamburg.
