Bible, English.- [Breeches Bible] The Bible: that is, the holy Scriptures conteined in the Old and New Testament. Translated according to the Ebrew and Greeke, and conferred with the best translations in diuerse languages. With most profitable annotations upon all hard places, and other things of great importance, include tables and concordances, lacking Apocrypha, printed general title and New Testament title with the heart-shaped border depicting the 12 apostles, the 12 Tribes of Israel and the 4 Evangelists, first title page drawn onto by an early hand, several woodcut text illustrations, woodcut map of the Garden of Eden on recto of A2, of the Jewish diaspora, of the vision of Ezekiel to verso of Ll4 and of the Holy Land to verso of Aaa2 following New Testament title, heavy browning and dust soiling, some isolated ink stains, tearing to some page borders, a few loose leaves, signatures or catchwords, later calf, rubbed and worn, front board loose, back board almost detached, [ESTC STC 2213, misprints ’Judas’ for ’Jesus’ in John VI.67 in variant STC 2212 has been corrected in this edition, Darlow & Moule 237], 4to, by the deputies of Robert Barker printer to the Kings most excellent Maiestie, title dated 1610 but colophon dated 1611. *** In the Breeches Bible, Genesis Chapter III Verse 7 reads: “Then the eies of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked, and they sewed figge tree leaves together, and made themselves breeches.”
