Strada and others, most of the plates with four or five-line manuscript explanations in French, engraved portrait of a cleric cut down and mounted on front pastedown. (Several plates with repaired marginal tears, a few with slight creases, some finger soiling and very slight occasional spotting, last series of plates of the life of St. Theresa imperfect.) The album of biblical engravings comprises over 40 series of religious plates, largely published by the prolific Nikolaas Visscher the Younger in Amsterdam, and probably drawn from the selections published in Claes Jansz. Visscher's Theatrum biblicum, hoc est historiae sacrae veteris et novi testamenti tabulis aeneis expressae , published in Amsterdam in 1634, or a similar bible, Den grooten figuer-bibel , published in Amsterdam in 1634, or a similar bible, Den grooten figuer-bibel , published by Jan Philipsz. Schabaelje in Alkmaar in 1646. The present selection of plates has a general engraved title by J. Sadeler, naming it as Bonorum et malorum consensio & horum praemia, illorum poena , dedicated to Prince Ferdinand, Archduke of Austria, and dated 1586. The series of plates include 12 by Sadeler and de Vos on subjects from Genesis, 8 on the story of Joseph by Furnius, and further series on the stories of Moses, the ten plagues, David, David and Bathsheba, the Song of Songs, Naboth, Ahab and Jezebel (New Hollstein, M. van Heemskerck, part I, 133-7), Josiah (op. cit., 143-50), Elijah and Elisha, the kings and leaders of Israel, the kings of Persia, Tobias, Susannah, Proverbs, Job, the four evangelists, and scenes and parables from the New Testament, including a series of 4 plates depicting the Good Samaritan by P. Furnius. The album also contains Visscher's series of 13 illustrations to accompany the creed, on 7 sheets (under the title XII fidei apostolicae symbola, iconibus artificiosissimis ), his set of 35 engravings by Heemskerck and J.
