Bifolium with a large coloured initial from an early manuscript choirbook, in Latin on parchment [France, thirteenth century] Bifolium, each leaf with single column with 11 lines in a rounded early gothic bookhand, with music on a 4-line red stave (rastrum: 9mm.), red rubrics, capitals touched in red, one-line initials in red and blue with single contrasting penstrokes, contemporary fol. nos. ‘LXXVII’ ‘LXXVIII’, one large initial ‘L’ (opening “Locutus est dominus …”) in red and blue with foliate penwork, some slight flaking to ink on outer sides of leaves, else excellent condition, each leaf 402 by 310mm. From a notably large and early choirbook.
