(London), n.d., on the blind embossed stationery of the British Museum. Binyon has boldly penned a fair copy of his famous World War I poem Men of Verdun (1917) which comprises ten stanzas using a rhyming scheme, commencing 'There are five men in the moonlight/ That by their shadows stand/ Three hobble, humped on crutches/ And two lack each a hand' and concluding 'For history's hushed before them/ Ane legend springs afresh/ Verdun, the name of thunder/ Is written on their flesh'. Signed by Binyon at the conclusion. An attractively presented poem, and rare in this form.
