A SUPERB PRIVATE COLLECTION OF VINTAGE AND SOLERA MADEIRA Lying in Twickenham, Middlesex (EHD) Madeira, "endearing and enduring", is the most versatile of all the classic fortified wines, ranging from dry Sercial, "mid-morning" Verdelho, rich Bual and sublimely sweet Malmsey; it is famed for its longevity - rarely if ever does one come across an "off" bottle - and has the advantage that, after drawing the cork, the wine remains pristine and drinkable for days, even weeks. Top-quality mature vintage and solera Madeiras, very rarely available in large quantities are now scarce which makes the following lots particularly attractive Unless specifically labelled "Solera" with the date of its "mother" vintage, madeira of a given vintage year is usually matured in caskes then transferred into demi-johns for bottling as required.
