Contemporary tree calf, flat gilt spines with red morocco lettering-pieces. Provenance : Hugh Bailye, Hanbury, January 1st 1794 (inscription on front free endpaper of vol. I); Smith Child Newfield Hall 1833 (inscription on front pastedown of vol. I). AN ATTRACTIVE COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION. One of the two plates shows the Round Robin addressed to Johnson on the subject of Goldsmith's epitaph, while the other gives facsimiles of Johnson's handwriting at different ages.
