[Botany] LINDEN, Jean Jules & Lucien; RODIGAS, Émile (ed.) Made-up set from "Lindenia. Iconography of orchids" with French and English instalments. Brussels, L. Linden (Ghent, Eug. Vanderhaeghen), 1892-parts, folio: pl. (one part (June with some staining touching the plates). Sewn, orig. pink and green wrappers. Kept in a cardboard folder, closed with ties. parts of this important work on orchids by the Belgian botanist, horticulturist, dealer and importer who specialised in orchids L. Linden (1817-1898). Comprising parts January till December (XII-XXIII) of the English ed. and August till December (10th vol., issue 1-and March till July (10th vol., issue 8-of the French ed. Totalling chromolithographic plates by P. de Pannemaeker, G. Severeyns and J. Goffart after A. Goosens and others. Between and J.J. Linden made extensive trips as a botanical explorer and horticulturalist to South and Central America. He pursued rigorous fieldwork on orchids, and he established the methods for their cultivation. Afterwards he worked as a plant dealer in Luxembourg from to and became director of the Jardin Royal de Zoologie et d'Horticulture in Brussels from to He continued his activities as a dealer, introducing new plants (particularly orchids) in Brussels and Ghent. His son Lucien Linden (1853-succeeded him as director of the company in The publication was begun in collaboration with his son Lucien and his colleague Émile Rodigas.
