Breguet No. 3499. A very fine and rare 18K gold openface half-quarter repeating duplex watch with jump hour hand Signed Breguet, no. 3499, "montre à répétition des quarts et des demi-quarts de première classe", sold on 28th July 1824 to Monsieur Auguste Mévil for 1,940 Francs Movement: gilded brass, jewelled to the centre, duplex escapement, plain three arm brass balance with pare-chute suspension on the top pivot, blued steel flat balance spring with bimetallic compensation curb on the regulator, repeating on a single hammer onto a single gong Dial: engine-turned silver, Roman numerals on blank chapter ring, secret no. 3499 Breguet to either side of XII, eccentric subsidiary seconds, blued steel Breguet hands Case: forme collier, engine-turned, hinged back, repeating pull-twist push-piece in the pendant, gold cuvette Signed: case with the punch mark of Joly and numbered 3499, cuvette signed and numbered, dial signed Breguet et Fils and with secret signature and no. 3499 to either side of XII, the reverse punch numbered 3499 Dimensions: 56 mm. diam. With: Breguet Certificate No. 4449 dated 12 October 2016 confirming that the present “Première Classe” quarter and half-quarter repeating watch with silver dial, eccentric small seconds between III and IV, engine-turned gold case and duplex escapement was sold to Monsieur Auguste Mévil on 28th July 1824 for the sum of 2,000 Francs discounted to 1,940 Francs.
