BRIGID BERLIN Archive of postcards and correspondence items sent to Brigid Berlin The archive is comprised of a 1968 postcard signed by Andy Warhol; approximately one hundred and eight postcards from various correspondents,1960s-80s; a signed note from Dominick Dunne; and a signed note with printed poems by Gerard Malanga Ephemera includes a large printed "Andy Warhol Studio, 19 East 32nd Street" envelope. Also included is an untitled artwork by David Croland, 10 x 13 inches, framed, with a note affixed to the rear wishing Brigid a happy birthday, dated 9/09. Generally well preserved and individually sleeved, occasional toning, small stains or wear, some creasing and abraded areas . An unpublished trove of postcards to Brigid Berlin from Factory friends and other notables. Highlights include a 1968 photographic postcard of Andy Warhol and Viva from the Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Warhol's first museum solo show, signed by Andy Warhol and dated 1969 on the reverse; four postcards from Viva - "Have been in bed for two weeks. Lost baby... never get pregnant - its too much to take"; two from Brigid's parents Richard and Honey and seven from Brigid to her parents - "My show opens here [Munich] on Tuesday Nov 24... have gotten a lot of commissions and am making a bit of Moolah!"; a letter with original envelope from Berlin's sister Christina Berlin to Brigid mentioning (without names) the defection of Mikhail Baryshnikov to Canada in 1973, accompanied by a small copy print of the news photo depicting Chrissy Berlin with Baryshnikov; one postcard from Berlin's sister Richie, who appeared in Ciao Manhattan ; Artists and authors include George Condo who has written Brigid providing two small drawings for a book cover, 2019; John and Muffie Chamberlain - "this is the only phallic postcard I could find"; Brice Marden; Charles Henri Ford; two from Shunk-Kender; an unidentified artwork dated 1983 and signed to Brigid from "Peter Rabbit"; two from Larry Rivers; four from Joe Brainerd; and four from Marcus Reichert, "this ain't no funky acapolka! Just a junkie soprano. Egads, M.". Present is also one postcard and a typed note with several printed poems from longtime Factory friend Gerard Malanga - "Here's a cock steeple for your collection"; an autograph note from Dominick Dunne; a postcard from Diane Podlewski to Fred Hughes - "I have an original signed print by D. Arbus of me that I want to sell in order to begin a modelling career ($ for clothes + teeth)"; and a postcard from Peter Beard with a textual addition to the front, a form of mail art, of which there is also an example by Samuel Adams Green and two by unidentified senders. Artworld figures include six from David Whitney - "AW being terrific, Fred being impossible and Chris simply putting on airs... hope your watching the weight, sounds like too much booze to me", and nine from Heiner Freidrich. Warhol factory regulars include three from Paul Issa - "here's someone who uses a different kind of recorder, but does something with it that you are reputedly famous for doing with something else"; two from William Katz; one from James and Sharon Hammond; three from actor Louis Waldron, "Viva arrived with Nico... couldn't get Viva to see "that" Italian director, so we are doing one of the "Viva" series... we got tossed out of the hotel last nite because we were making a movie Around the World with "Viva"."
