Buddhism] - Burmese-Pali manuscript copy of a Buddhist text , late 19th c., 7 lacquered palm leaves with 6 lines of large script written in black resin on red and gold background, with elaborate gold design on both sides of lvs. Loose under 2 beveled teak covers, 57 x 13 cm, elaborately lacquered in red and gold with decorative images (some age wear). A small hole in covers and each leaf for passing through a bamboo-pin or binding cord to hold together the manuscript (tiny corner of 1 leaf broken off).
First and last leaf inset with decorative panels in gold on either side of the opening stanza. The Pali Canon is the standard collection of scriptures in the Buddhist tradition, as preserved in the Pali language. Our copy is written in a medium square Burmese script.
