Rare album kept by CMOH winner George E. Albee, 41st Infy. MOH awarded for bravery at Brazos River, TX, 28 Oct. 1869. Autograph book 12mo, full leather with gilt front and spine with 4 bands. Front Autographs. Geo. E. Albee. 41st U.S. Infy. (Colored Troops/Buffalo Soldiers) 324 page book with over 200 autographs. Albee also made notes and updates on many of these individuals. For example, p.55 has the autograph of F.H. Vincent, 2nd Lieut. 9th U.S. Cav., Fort Stockton with a note by Albee of the date signed (26 Oct. 68) and a later note, Killed by Indians in the battle at Howards Wells Texas Apr. 20-72. Signees included represent many units, among them 41st Infy. (20+ signatures), 9th Cav. & Infy., 20th Infy., 25th Infy., 26th Infy., 35th Infy., 36th Infy. (Colored Troops)(20+), 38th Infy. (Colored Troops), and several Wisconsin units. There are signatures from Mexican dignitaries, and a few other signatures are as late as the Spanish-American War. There are signatures of Wisconsin dignitaries, such as Lucius Fairchild, Governor and later Consul to England, Wyman Spooner, Lt. Gov.; August Gaylor, Adj Gen. and L.S. Dixon and Cauncey Cole of the state Supreme Court. On facing pages Albee got the autographs of Buffalo Bill/W.F. Cody (1874) and J.B. Amohundre/Texas Jack. There is at least one other MOH winner, Francis S. Dodge (White River Agency, CO, 29 Sept. 1879). Also included are some Mexican dignitaries such as Jesus Ortega (p. 323) with tipped in letter from Ortega, Governor and Military Commander of State of Puebla (betw. 323-324); F.E. de Martinez and Severino Calderone (p. 307); I. Manuel Gonzalez, Mariano Narra and calling card of Santiago Cerna (p.308). Among the other autographs are: General W.T. Sherman (tipped in p.3); General P.H. Sheridan and Wm. Belknap, Secy. of War (both on p.5); G.W. Schofield (p.19); W. S. Arnold (p.23 with note: A good Officer - perfect Gentleman & steadfast friend. Died at Ringgold Barracks Texas Dec. 12 '67 of jaundice.); H.W. Lawton, signed as 1st Lieut. 41st Infy. then again as Maj. Genl. (p23); Winfield S. Hancock (tipped in betw. 60-61); John S. Slight wear to binding, but it is a very good binding and held up well to heavy use. Light toning of leaves.
