BUREAU CABINET, high quality Copenhagen work in rococo, Mathias Ortmann (Danish royal cabinet maker), veneered with walnut, sculpted ornamentation, piece of ironwork of gilded lead and bronze, frame in pine, upturned brow with decoration of flower garlands and plant ornamentation, upper cabinet with straight shape, interior of three shelves with slots for spoons and two drawers, doors with fillings in the form of faceted mercury foiled mirror glass, bottom part with bulbous shape and three drawers, drawer fronts, upper and lower rear panel with partially fragmentary labels with the inscription Dr. [...] Hÿgind 31, three-part, keys included, height 271, 144 x 67 cm PROVENANCE Possibly Wedellsborg Gods, Husby Sogn, Denmark (according to label mark Hygind, belonging Wedellsborg) Previously in private collection, Berlin Sotheby's, Zürich, 16 June 1998, no. 331 Swedish private collection LITERATURE Christian Waagepetersen: Danske Møbler før 1848, Copenhagen 1980, compare label signed commodes page 361, illustration 483-485, compare bureau cabinet page 397, illustration 529
