Uncut in original drab paper wrappers (spine a little worn), brown morocco-backed slipcase. Provenance : J. James (contemporary signature on front free endpaper) -- manuscript title on spine and lower cover, title of a Walter Scott novel, 'Guy Mannering or the Astrologer,' also penned on lower cover -- [collation note dated 14 July 1920 pencilled at rear] -- purchased from James F. Drake, New York. FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE with E8 recto blank. The advertisements at the end are dated November, 1816. 6000 copies of the first edition were printed. Wise Byron I, p. 113. [BYRON, Lord]. Additional Stanzas to the First, Second and Third Editions of Beppo . [London: John Murray 1818]. Single leaf, 8° (215 x 133mm). (Light creasemarks, stitch-holes.) Blue cloth case with morocco spinestrip. Provenance : purchased from Pickering and Chatto, London, 28 May 1959, £50. Wise notes that 'in March, 1818, Byron sent to Murray four additional stanzas for Beppo , to be introduced upon pages 14, 19, and 39 respectively. They were duly included in the fourth edition of the poem. In the meantime Murray caused them to be set up together, and distributed a few copies privately in the form of the present leaflet.
