Contemporary pink boards (rubbed, some light wear at extremities); quarter morocco chemise. Provenance : Gilbert Compton Elliot (bookplates, note on flyleaf, purchased Jan. 1892). FIRST EDITION. The present copy bears all the points of the first edition: the sheets are watermarked "LL 1806"; D3 has been cancelled (reset and without footnote); p.5 lines 2-3 read "where , where"; p.114 has the misprint "thnnder" in line 4; and p.181 has the misprint "Thc" in the penultimate line. Of the binding, Randolph notes: "the binding, unquestionably original as issued, is a variant; copies are usually recorded in drab boards, with or without backstrip, and with white paper label." (See following lot.) Hours of Idleness consists of forty pieces, of which twelve were entirely new. The remaining were selected from Poems on Various Occasions , also of 1807.
