Coventry Eagle produced motorcycles between 1901 and 1939 and were very keen on racing during the 1920s when they broke many records with machines of 248cc and 996cc, the latter raced by Bert Le Vack. Manufacturing a wide range of motorcycles for the general public, they never sold in great numbers as production was limited due to the factory’s lack of large engineering capacity. This example from the 1920s is easily recognisable by its Brough-like petrol tank. It is a four-stroke sidevalve single with chain drive which has remained unused for many years. However it comprises all the main parts including rolling chassis, petrol tank, engine and carburettor. It retains its toolbox but is missing its gearbox. This will make an interesting machine and a good restoration project.
