Beschreibung:

FIS speedway motorcycles were manufactured by the PZL company in Rzeszów, Poland, commencing in the mid-1950s. PZL had originally been established in 1937 to manufacture aircraft engines, and after its factory had been commandeered first by the Germans and then by the Russians, returned to its core business after WW2. Never more than a sideline for PZL, the speedway motorcycle had been designed by professional mechanics Tadeusz Fedki and Romuald Izewski, who copied the British JAP engine that dominated the sport at the time, though the Polish version used metric fastenings throughout. The machine took its name from the initials of Fedki, Izewski and Stalowcy, the pair’s local speedway team. Professor Ehn’s father, also a keen motorcycle enthusiast, bought this FIS from a Polish rider in 1958 following a speedway meeting in Vienna. The machine remained in storage for many years thereafter, only emerging in 1982 when it was cleaned, started and then placed in the Museum. There are no documents with this Lot.
