BSA’s range for 1955 embodied several novel features. Alongside the existing plunger-framed machines were new models equipped with swinging-arm rear suspension, while the A7 Shooting Star and A10 Road Rocket sports twins came with new aluminium-alloy cylinder heads. The latter produced a highly respectable 40bhp, and as tested by Motor Cycling magazine was found capable of reaching 109mph. For 1958 the sports 650 became the Super Rocket, gaining a revised cylinder head, Amal Monobloc carburettor and an extra 3bhp. The model lasted into the unit-construction era and was last produced in 1963. Finished in typical red/black livery, this Super Rocket was first registered on 2nd March 1961 and has enjoyed five owners prior to the present. Purchased by the vendor from Brian Bird of Lymington in 2004, the same year it was restored, it has seen very little use since acquisition. The machine has been upgraded with a Bob Newby belt primary drive, competition magneto and twin-leading-shoe front brake. Reported as in good working order, it is offered with current road fund licence/MoT and Swansea V5 registration document. This sale is part of a disposal of a private collection.
