While rivals came and went, the 'B' changed little, undergoing a minor facelift for 1970 when it received a new radiator grille, Rostyle wheels and reclining seats, and gaining a distinctive 'honeycomb' front grille in 1973. A more radical, by MGB standards, change occurred two years later when the car acquired plastic bumpers to comply with US legislation. When production ceased in October 1980, MGB sales had exceeded 500,000, making it one of the most successful sportscars of all time.
