Lot consists of (A) Springfield Model 1898 Bolt Action Rifle with 30" round barrel, 1901 type rear sight, and blade front sight. Chambered in .30-40 Krag (.30 Army). Receiver marked "U.S. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY" and "MODEL 1898." Plain straight gripped walnut stock in two barrel band configuration with forearm end bayonet lug and sling swivels. Stock has 1898 style square bolt handle inlet. Stock is marked with JSA 1903 dated cartouche and Circle P proof mark on bottom of grip. Butttrap opens up to one chamber cleaning rod storage compartment with three piece cleaning rod inside. CONDITION: Very good with original blue remaining on metal parts with wear on the high edges and the balance faded to a blue-brown patina. Stocks are excellent with minor handling marks and most of the original finish remaining. Buttplate has faded to a silver patina. Action works correctly and locks tightly. Bore is bright with crisp rifling. (B) Springfield Model 1896 carbine with 22" barrel, carbine ladder sight, and blade front, chambered in .30-40 Krag (.30 Army). Receiver marked "U.S. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY" and "MODEL 1896." Plain straight gripped walnut stock with 1896 style round bolt handle inlet. Circle P proof mark on bottom of grip. Has saddle ring and three piece cleaning rod in butt-trap. CONDITION: Excellent condition with original finish remaining that has blended to a pleasant grey-green patina. Almost all of fire blue remaining on extractor. Stock is excellent as lightly sanded and finish added. Cartouche on left of wrist is indiscernible. Butt-plate is a brown patina. Action works correctly and locks tightly.
