Battle of Saipan Provenance Colt Model 1911-A1 Semi-Automatic Pistol. A rare well-documented piece of history, this is an original Colt Model 1911-A1, S/N 1722140 (dating it to 1941), carried and used during the Battle of Saipan from June 15th to July 9th, 1944. The pistol remained on the island after the battle (the story is it was a battlefield pickup) and eventually stored in the armory of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) Dept. of Public Safety. In an effort to re-arm it’s police force, The CNMI DPS sold this pistol, along with nineteen M1 Garands, to the private collector Al Burdi in Hawaii. It’s in original WW2-era shape with all of the original parts, proper markings, parkerized finish with no import/export marks or visible slide temper line. It was well maintained during the years it was in the armory so its current condition is quite remarkable. The pistol comes with several documents, including two on CNMI government letterhead signed by the DPS police commissioner, confirming the provenance of the pistol and private sale. According to records, this was the ONLY pistol in the armory. This is a rare opportunity to own one of the most well-documented firearms linked to a specific WW2 battle. CONDITION: There is overall age freckling over the original finish and the bore is clean. TDW Name Value Accessories Barrel Length 5" Caliber/Bore .45 ACP FFL Status Curio & Relic Manufacturer Colt Model M1911A1 Paperwork Provenance Serial Number 1722140
