Winchester 1885 deluxe Highwall Schuetzen Model rifle made by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company shipped in 1907. Blued 28" Winchester Nickel Steel round No. 3 weight barrel, caliber .22 Short, fitted with a Winchester wind gauge front sight with spirit level, Winchester blank in rear sight seat, and mounted with a Stevens 16" No. 476 telescope with Stevens mounts. Blued flatspring, pistol grip action with Schuetzen double set triggers, fitted with a Winchester spur lever and a Winchester mid-range Vernier tang. Winchester 3X deluxe checkered pistol grip stock with Dutch cheekpiece, fitted with a Helm pattern buttplate. Matching deluxe checkered forend fitted with a Winchester tuning fork palm rest. Cody Research states this action was originally fitted with a 30" No. 3 weight octagon barrel in CAL. .22 Short, and also states this rifle was returned to factory for repair on October 9, 1908. Possibly returned for a barrel change. CONDITION: 90% plus original barrel blue with some age speckling. 90% bright original action blue with age finish flaking. Lever and buttplate have only traces of their original finish with an aged mellow appearance. Beautifully burl walnut stock retaining most of its original finish with minor handling and use marks. Bright crisp near perfect bore and perfect mechanics. Stevens telescope with perfect crosshairs, lenses needing professional cleaning. Description reviewed by Gary Quinlan.
