CARDIGAN, JAMES BRUDENELL, 7TH EARL TWO AUTOGRAPH LETTERS: i) to an unnamed correspondent, signed ("Cardigan"), discussing "an affair of a very delicate nature", that he has placed the case in the hands of his "solicitor in London", 3 pages, 8vo, Royal Barracks, 25 August 1843ii) to Mr Hepburn, in the third person, asking if “he could see Lady Cardigan this afternoon between 2 & 3 o’clock”, 1 page, 8vo, Portman Square, 5 November 1846 Lieutenant-General James Thomas Brudenell, 7th Earl of Cardigan, led a life characterised by "adultery and bravado" (ODNB) - the former being, most likely, the subject of the first letter. He achieved the status of national hero for leading the Charge of the Light Brigade in the Crimea.
