Mammoth plate albumen print mounted on board with 9 additional photographs mounted on reverse. Image: 38.7x51.7 cm (15¼x20½"); board: 47.8x61.5 cm (18¾x24¼"). Other photographs vary in size and measure up to 14.5x19.2 cm (5¾x7½"). Album leaf with Carleton Watkins' iconic image of Mirror Lake in Yosemite. Carleton Watkins: The Complete Mammoth Photographs, cat. no. 234. On reverse of mount are nine photographs captioned "Union Pacific Railway 1873" although the Group of Paiute Indians photograph is from Thomas Houseworth & Co.'s Central Pacific series. In the 1870's Carleton Watkins and Thomas Houseworth were neighbors, with studios on the first block of Montgomery St. From the collection of Jack and Beverly Waltman.
