CARY, Strand Jan y1 s t1800 A 12-inch (30.5cm) diameter terrestrial library globe made up of twelve coloured engraved gores, the equatorial graduated in hours and in degrees in both directions, the ecliptic graduated in days of the houses of the Zodiac with sigils, the meridian of Greenwich ungraduated, the equinoctial colure graduated in degrees, the oceans with an analemma, trade winds, and the tracks of various explorers including those of Cook, De La Perouse, Clerke, Gore, Vancouver, Pickersgill and Phipps, with numerous dates and notes, the various islands and rocks also with numerous notes such as Cluster of I s no appearance of inhabitants , Lord Mulgraves Range abounding with Cocoa Nut trees well inhabited and Copper Coloured Inhabitants , the Antarctic with no coastline but with notes pertaining to Cook's tracks Many Islands and fields of broken Ice , Jan. y17.1773 Many Islands & firm fields of Ice and Jan. y30.1774 Firm Fields & vast mountains of ice_71°10_Highest S. t hLatitude of Cap. tCook. , the continents with some nation states shaded delicately in green and showing rivers, mountains, deserts, towns, cities and the Chinese Wall, North America with no northern coastline, but with notes such as The Sea seen by Mackenzie 1789 and The Sea seen by Mr Hearne 1771 , with further notes such as Copper Mine , Great Plains , Snake Indians , Blackfoot Indians , Cherokee and other native tribes, Africa with the interior labelled Unknown Parts and largely blank, South Africa showing CAFFRERIA , Great Nimiquas , Little Nimiquas and HOTTENTOTS , Australia labelled NEW HOLLAND with various place names marked around the coastline and NEW SOUTH WALES Discovered by Cap. Cook 1770 , the islands of New Zealand labelled in Maori Eaheimomauwe and TOVYPOENAMMOO ( crack around the equator, partially repaired with some redrawing, repairs with redrawing to both poles, other minor cracks and repairs, discolouration, abrasion and scratches ), with engraved brass hour dial and meridian circle, the mahogany horizon with hand-coloured engraved paper graduated in degrees, days of the month and of the houses of the Zodiac and with compass directions, on four mahogany quadrant supports to baluster turned pillar with three outswept legs terminating in castors -- 33in.
