.31 caliber, 6" octagonal barrel with single line address, S/N 220494. Brass backstrap and triggerguard, with walnut grips. Engraved on the backstrap To Wm.O. Osgood Lt. and Provost Marshall Staff General Commanding From Col. Wm. Tresdale, Feb 1st 1863, Nashville, Tenn. Chief of Army Police. Cased with flask and mold. With docs. Neither name can be found in Heitman or the Volunteer Register. Wm. Tresdale is completely unknown and the only Wm. O. Osgood served in the 7th Kansas Cavalry as adjutant before mustering out in July 1862, several months before this presentation was recorded. Condition: All metal has turned to a grey mixed with light brown patina. Grips with nicks and dings. Backstrap and triggerguard still retains traces of silver wash. Cased has been relined. Flask is an eagle flask. Brass mold with no spruce cutter.
