Seams in stock indicate that it was extensively rebuilt and repaired with reinforcing plates to both sides of wrist and seams completely surrounding comb where a new one was spliced in place. London proof marks appear beneath barrels. Item features "MANTON" name inlaid in gold to both lockplates while barrel is signed "MANTON*LONDON" in gold. Further gold detailing includes a border to breech over a sunburst design. Hammers and tang show floral scroll surrounding a wheat sheaf design behind breech. Light geometric scroll applied to various screw heads and triggerguard. Item comes with a brass tipped wooden ramrod. Item comes with a wood case that shows a "John Manton & Sons/GUN MAKERS TO THE ROYAL FAMILY/No. 6 Dover Street/London/Patented for Self Priming Gunts &c&c&c" label pasted to lid beneath the "{Royal Coat of Arms}". Oxidized spot above forend on left barrel. Gold leaf design to barrel has flaked in two locations while signature to lockplates is weak with some loss of gold filling. Screw heads show incorrect timing from previous disassembly. Silver escutcheon to wrist is unsigned and tarnished. Scrollwork to triggerguard and forend cap is weak. Overall metal finish shows gray patina forming to edges. Split through wrist that then extends through stock replaced with wood splice and glued. Reinforcing plates installed to both sides of wrist. Chip to interior of forend near right lockplate. Left side of stock near lockplate shows pins from its reattachment. Tools within case all show handling wear with some loss of original finish to powder flask. Flask spring is broken. Handle of powder measure is bent. Two of the wads have been stretched. Edges of box show some abrasions and scratches with mars overall. Crack to front of case beside lock plate. Inner liner is discolored with some rub wear and mars. Hammers are able to cock and release correctly.
