Bowen of Philadelphia. Original brown cloth, title in gilt on spine. Condition : some browning to text, some light browning to blank margins of plates; rebacked, old spine laid down. Provenance : Peabody Institute, Danvers, Institute Library (early ink stamp). first edition . An important American color-plate and ornithological work which Cassin intended to be a supplement to Audubon. Cassin’s work took American ornithology to a new level, becoming the first American bird book to use trinomial nomenclature.
