Catherine Chambers Yeabsra II Acrylic on Paper Signed on Verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) About Inspired by environments and their inhabitants, Catherine embraces matters that are common to people the world over including self-awareness, identity, aspiration, social status, security and faith. Her art is built on close contact and friendship with subjects, with clues of connections left in the details of her paintings. Catherine's work focuses on 'visitors' and their consequent impact. She suggests that ultimately that which is familiar to us and the unfamiliar, are not significantly different; foreignness and boundaries are artificial. Catherine is an avid observer who creates work to stimulate discussion rather than to deliver conclusions. Education 2:1 (BA) Hons Drawing and Applied Arts, University of the West of England Select Exhibitions/Awards Solo Exhibitions 2019 I Appreciate You, The Embassy of Ethiopia, London 2016 A Brother's Progress, Freespace Gallery, Kentish Town, London 2015 Red Lodge Chair, Red Lodge Museum, Park Row, Bristol Selected Group Exhibitions 2020 Summer Show, Royal Academy of Arts, London 2018 CCTT, Whitefriars Gallery, Harrow, London 2018 Summer Show, Royal Academy of Arts, London 2015 2nd Annual, The Royal West of England Academy, Bristol Residencies 2016 3-month Artist Residency, Freespace Project. Kentish Town, London Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork The series of feet are of a most beautiful friend of mine called Yeabsra. I have been painting her since 2016 and we plan to continue as she grows up. After a few portraits I noticed that as she grew up, the position of her feet changed from dangling, to tiptoes touching, to gently resting on the ground. I have taken these postcards as a chance to highlight these parts of larger painting I have painted of Yeabsra as I love them so much. It was something I'd observed and documented without noticing at the time.
