Frontispiece, 3 maps (one folding), and numerous plates; lacking errata slip, one or two stray spots. Half green morocco over marbled boards, bound by Zaehnsdorf, spines with raised bands in six compartments, second and third gilt-lettered, others with repeat gilt filigree diamond centrepieces, top edge gilt, marbled endpapers; spines lightly sunned, some rubbing to edges. Brown cloth over board slipcase. First edition, first issue, with ''Frederick'' for ''Zedikiah'' on p.104 (vol. I). The first edition of Catlin's famous book, one of the most important works on American Indians published in the 19th century. REFERENCE:Howes C241; Wagner-Camp 84 PROVENANCE:C. C. Moseley (bookplate to front pastedown of vol. I). Corliss Champion Moseley was a U.S. Army aviator, and later civilian aviation instructor.
