Soft and 'sweet'. Such a gloriously 'accessible' wine. So beautiful. Such a lacy texture. Pure pleasure to drink. Lovely and fresh, but not massive. Silky finesse which caresses the palate. SS. Lot 461 12 bts (2 owc) Lot 462 12 bts (2 owc) per lot: USD 1300-1800 I think I first realized that Caymus Special Selection was not only one of the greatest wines made in California, but a very great wine in the context of world wine-making when I attended one of Bipin Desai's vertiginous vertical tastings. The tasting was held in L.A. and we drank the Special Selections from 1975-1990 over some spectacular food at Valentino. I was deeply impressed by the complexity of the wines which, for me, is the real criterion of quality and I was also struck by Chuck Wagner's direct approach, professionalism and zest for life. More recently, in Napa we did a vertical tasting of younger vintages, which was equally impressive. SS. Quantity: 1
