Lot of 36 photographs, each with a New Orleans photo studio imprint, comprised of 35 CDVs and one cabinet card of a mother and father posed with their four children with backmark of A. Roth, Frenchmen St. Highlighted CDVs include: Three CDVs of men in fraternal or masonic garb, including two studio portraits of the same subject seated with sword in hand, each credited to J.H. Clark. One includes period penciled note identifying the subject as Alfred E. Billings, and is dated August 22, 1868. The third portrait features a full standing view of a member of a fraternal organization wearing a sash and apron adorned with various symbols, credited to B. Moses on verso, with one cent revenue stamp on verso. Four CDVs with religious content, including full standing portrait of a minister credited to B. Moses; interior view of pews leading up to a church altar, with a minister standing at the pulpit, credited to Leray & Robira (CDV appears to have been slightly trimmed along top and bottom edges); view of a cross comprised of flowers and foliage credited to Anderson & Turner; and portrait of a bespectacled gentleman identified on verso as Reverend William Miller with imprint of W.W. Washburn. Postmortem view of an infant credited to Lilienthal, Canal St. Nine CDVs or CDV-sized tintypes of toddlers and young children, three of which are tintypes of darling children in paper mounts with verso imprint/stamp that reads, "IXL Gems...Daliet's Gallery of Art...Frenchmen St."; two CDVs of young girls with their dolls with imprints of W.W. Washburn and B.&G. Moses (albumen partially separated to top left corner from mount); studio view of boy riding a three-wheel bicycle with imprint of Lilienthal; three portraits of innocent toddlers, including beautifully hand-colored view of a young lad in a plaid frock by Washburn, and sweet portrait of a little girl wearing a cross necklace in front of a podium with ball mounted on top by Spillman. CDV of a mother with young child sitting on her lap. The child holds a hammer in one hand and hat in the other. With imprint of John H. Clarke on verso. Seventeen CDVs of men, women, and children of varying ages, with some subjects identified on mount recto or verso, and some portraits autographed by the sitter. Each image bears a New Orleans studio imprint, and photographers include E. Jacobs & Co., W.D. McPherson, H. Spillman, McClure & Gormley, Theo. Lilienthal, S. Anderson, J.W. Petty, Guay & Co., Symmer & Leeson, and J. Frazier. Provenance:Eugene R. Groves Collection of 19th Century Photography Condition: Range in condition from moderate condition to very good. Many with light to moderate toning. Some with trimmed edges and/or clipped corners. Some with light spotting/smudges.
