CHAGALL, MARC] Derriere Le Miroir . Paris: Editions Maeght, 1946-1970. A run of approximately one hundred forty-five numbers in original lithographed wrappers. The group includes parts 1-46, 48-91, 94-110, 112-126, 128-147, 149-179 and 181-188 (i.e. lacking 47, 92-93, 111, 127, 148, 180). Present are the Chagall Paris issues (Nos. 66-67-68 containing eleven original lithographs), the supplemental 10 Ans d'Edition, several large printed price lists for 1961-65, a few duplicate issues including two copies of issue No. 1, and various ephemeral items. 15 x 11 inches (38.5 x 28.5 cm); text and illustrations including numerous original lithographs, in the original wrappers as issued, housed in fifteen publisher's folding chemises with lithographed labels and ties. Some light toning and offsetting, intermittent light chipping or short tears to some edges, splits to some chemises, overall a fine set, sold as a periodical and not subject to return. This virtually complete run of the first twenty-four years of Derriere Le Miroir includes the rare and desirable Chagall Paris series. Issued by Maeght, the eminent French publisher of livres d'artistes, Derriere Le Miroir was a highly influential art periodical which featured original color lithographs in most issues from the 1950s on. The Chagall Paris issue of 1954 contains eleven lithographs by the artist, of which nine are colored.
