He studied under the marine painter Wilhelm Krause in Berlin, and Edouard Bertin Eugene Ciceri and Louis-Gabriel-Eugene Isabey in France. It is the influence of Isabey and the Romantic school that is evident in Hoguet's landscapes. Hoguet exhibited at the Paris Salon between 1842-1853 and in Berlin from 1848, where he became a member of the Berlin Academy in 1869. Hoguet's works can be found in the collections of the Berlin Nationalgalerie, the Hamburg Kunsthalle, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow. Estimate £2,000-3,000 Relined and cleaned. Craquelure overall. Some dirt in the sky. Paint layer is stable and secure. Varnish is saturating and even but slightly yellowed. Scattered areas of retouching.
